The Circus Ipswich Street Circus Parade!
A brilliant opportunity for the young people of Ipswich ages 6 – 17 years old, regardless of their experience or circus skills to perform alongside dancers, musicians and professional acrobats in a truly unique Street Circus spectacular!
Anyone can join! There is a place for everyone in the Street Circus!
You just have to be a student in a Term 1 class at Circus Ipswich to join in. There is no additional cost involved. No previous Circus Experience required!
Work and rehearsals for the show will begin on Sunday February 7th and rehearsals will take place most Sundays from 1pm – 3pm until Easter. Rehearsals will be in addition to class time.
The performance will be held early April (after Easter holidays), exact date TBD.
This show will be directed by Chelsea McGuffin, Founder and Lead Creative of Circus Company 2 who will lead the performers through the creative process to build an amazing show. Chelsea is renowned for her innovative, daring and fun use of circus to tell stories about the lives of young people. Her show Kaleidoscope told the story of a day in the life of Ethan, a young boy on the Autism spectrum who performed alongside professional acrobats and toured around Australia with his show. Chelsea has a long-standing career in the arts, which has seen her collaborate and create work for leading organisations, including: The Sydney Opera House, Circus Oz, and Circa. She has worked as a performing artist for over 18 years across dance and circus and begun creating her own work in 2011. Her work has toured the globe and she is known as one of Australia’s leading Circus Directors.
The show will also be supported by Ipswich State High School students who will use their skills in dance, makeup artistry, music and film to contribute to the success of the show.
Company 2 is a performing arts company founded by Chelsea McGuffin in 2008. The company are driven by the desire to tell stories and engage with fellow artists and audiences. They create work that pushes the boundaries of circus in a way that is accessible and a delight to their audiences. They produce contemporary circus that is full of heart, that brings to life the ideas and voices they think need to be heard. Real stories. The imaginary. Young and old. Artists and audiences. Drawing out what is best, what is ugly, what is painful, what is playful – in all of us.
Born in Brisbane but living and working all over the world. Contemporary circus is their common language, and Company2 use this language to bring together performers from different artistic disciplines – dancers, musicians and makers. Creating stories that challenge and delight.
Most recently Company 2 produced Kaleidoscope, Wunderage, and Le Coup and will be performing “The Wired Moon and the Ice Cream Floor” at SCOOP ice-cream festival at HOTA on the Gold Coast.
Circus Ipswich was founded in 2017 with a mission to bring the joy of the circus arts as a legitimate art form to our city.
As a youth circus focussed on developing circus skills in kids and teens aged 6 and older, we run classes and projects that use the power of circus to empower our community.
Circus is about taking on a challenge and doing something daring. Circus has a level of daring to suit everyone. We run non-competitive classes and encourage students to take on challenges by choice.
There is no point being daring, without being safe! Safety is our priority at Circus Ipswich. All our classes start with a safety talk. We never work without safety equipment and all our staff have blue cards and first aid training.
Circus is about community. There is something for everyone in circus. We encourage each other and cheer each other on. Circus Ipswich is an inclusive space where we learn new skills together and take care of each other.
